How to Join the Original 3D NFT Metaverse Ecosystem(ft. ImagineX)

When we first became interested in the metaverse back in 2019, we commonly questioned ourselves whether or not our efforts would produce valuable results considering the prospects of the metaverse were much less enthusiastic than today. Back then, a future ruled by the virtual was only being dreamt about by true internet natives who had the fortunate opportunity to spend significant time immersed in virtual experiences.

This is why when we first came across Decentraland in its pre-launch phase, the idea behind the metaverse seemed like a natural progression to these virtual realities that we as a team already had an affinity for. We joined the community as soon as possible and began developing and building content for the day 1 release of DCL. The launch was a huge success and realized what so many had been dreaming about for several years leading up to it, could a decentralized user-owned metaverse hosted on the blockchain exist?

The answer was clearly yes, but there were and still are some glaring holes in the sustainability spectrum of design to the metaverse that led us to contribute our time and efforts more significantly. This led to the launch of MetaZone on the same day as Decentraland launch in February of 2020, giving land owners the immediate opportunity to purchase, install, and deploy community-generated 3D content on their lands.

Quickly the community of land owners realized this was the new paradigm of asset ownership in the blockchain space and began collecting METAs from the META creator ecosystem. Over 2000 land-owning hosts have since joined the ecosystem, deploying and hosting content from the growing community of metaverse architects and developers MetaZone has aggregated over the years.

We’re obviously thrilled to have seen our assumptions proven that a market for deployable 3D NFTs exists. However, we understand this space has a long way to go to compete with the overall NFT space and even larger gaming ecosystems of the mainstream world.

Having said all that, we know that this demand is still in its infancy stages as the market takes its time to mature its understanding of the value propositions that exist with metaverse participation. Once there is a mass realization that the potential of digital economies can surpass the productivity of the physical world, a true boom will occur that will make all previous crypto cycles look amateur in comparison. That is what we are building for, and to have knowledge that we are pioneering and bringing about these value propositions for the masses to eventually gravitate toward, motivates us greatly.

Interview with ImagineX

What is your origin story, and what inspires you? How are you expecting people to interact with your art once deployed in the metaverse?

ImagineX is a world-class startup with worldwide customers that has developed an amazing and breathtaking technology called Digital twins. It’s a hyper-realistic 1:1 3D model for the existing or the unbuilt property. You can try out one of our twins using our app (HomeVR) in the Oculus Store from your Meta Quest 2 headset.

We founded our company in Colombia four years ago but ended up relocating it to Austin, TX. As a natural extension of what we are doing in real-life, we created a new brand line of digital assets for Decetraland, inspired by the real designs of real estate developers. We consider ourselves the high-end architects of the metaverse. Our premium properties bring top-of-the-notch in real estate regarding optimization, animation, customization, and interaction for the decentraland’s owners. Hope we can convey our value prop to the market.

What do you think needs to happen in order for 3D designers to receive similar praise as 2D artists?

We think that 3D designers in the past were not well known, but nowadays the community has access to several platforms where everyone can see the enormous talent that we have. Movies and video games are the proof. We just need to realize that 2d and 3d artists are pure talents, just focused in a different way.

Do the low poly design limitations of a virtual world like Decentraland impede your creative process or help it?

Imagination or creativity is not affected by the number of polygons, there’s always a way to create amazing worlds even with these limitations… However, when you create something in Decentraland, the general amount of geometry and shaders is very low, and somehow you need to consider these constraints whenever you are working on a new model. The process, however, starts by thinking of something unique, and then you make it real.

Do you have any advice for new creators looking to make content like yours in the metaverse?

You can divide your processes for a better workflow. Our tips for modeling a very low poly asset are, to keep the textures at 512MB (think in user experience and try to create good colliders). Export and use Decentraland builder tools for programming and add interaction. Lastly, you can publish it in Metazone.

What are your future plans to expand your own MetaZone Verse (aka brand)?

We believe that as the metaverse matures, the use of the land will start reflecting more and more like the real-life market. So we will begin seeing companies investing in real estate and then in their future developments reflecting more on their brands and policies. But, generally speaking, we can envision a significant switch from residential to commercial developments, and we expect to be one of the key players in this upcoming trend.

To your knowledge, do 3D artists and designers such as yourself find it difficult to monetize your skills in the traditional world?

It all depends on your skills and industry opportunities. Maybe in some cases, you can find some troubles when you start in a 3d world, our advice is to never stop learning, and improve your portfolio when you have spare time. Sometimes it is so hard to find a good opportunity, but when you find the first one, this opens the doors to many others. Just work on yourself.

Do you think creating content for the metaverse will provide a new revenue-generating opportunity to leverage your skills?

We can’t predict the future, but it is exciting to think about developing and designing the NexGen of video games and metaverses. As soon as they start becoming popular new sources of income for creators and other unthinkable professions will start to emerge. The ImagineX team realized this novel opportunity with Decentraland and we expect to pay it off in the short term future.

Is there anything else you would like to say to the MetaZone community regarding your aspirations as a META creator?

Stay tuned for our upcoming assets! We look forward to the moment when people can experience our properties through a VR Headset. Just to give an idea to the community, ImagineX is one of the few startups that has deployed an APP to walk through digital twins, changing furniture and finishes to your liking like never before. We want to bring the same experience to the community in Decentraland.

How important is Interoperability for your creations to exist in multiple metaverses?

Until now, we only have creations in Decentraland, but we would like to think that you shouldn’t have any restrictions when deploying your creations in other metaverses. A smooth and straightforward optimization process should be done over the assets when trying them over in multiple metaverses. We are still far from there, and some industry standards should be set up among companies (i.e., OpenAI) to speed up this process.

Are there any collaborations you aspire to work on or on the roadmap?

We haven’t thought about collaborations until now, but we aren’t closed to it. Like most of the community, we are still learning about the metaverse and its future potential. In addition, we are finding a viable business model for our assets and achieving product-market fit.

We want to stay ahead of other developers and on the edge of what’s technically possible on Decentraland.

What is MetaZone?

METAZONE is a distribution platform for user generated content called METAs (Metaverse Enabled Tokenized Assets); which can be purchased and hosted in the open metaverse. Each META is an NFT that creators can enable with revenue splits. METAs function as installable applications allowing the asset owners to deploy or delegate their content within the metaverse at the click of a few buttons.
